We believe in cost certainty and transparency in determining our fees. At the outset of your case we will provide you with an assessment of your fees and will discuss the most appropriate and cost effective option for you. There will be no hidden costs or surprises at the conclusion of your case.
Where possible, we operate a fixed fee system; this means that we will either agree a fee with you for the whole of your case or we will agree a fee to be applied on a per hearing basis. This provides you with certainty that your case will not cost you anymore than agreed and allows us to concentrate upon the task of obtaining a successful outcome on your behalf.
In more complex cases we also carry out work on an hourly basis. In those cases we will provide a very clear estimate of costs from the start and will keep you updated of the costs throughout your case.
In many cases it will be essential to obtain an expert report in support of your case. This report may be in relation to a “back calculation”, the effect of medication on your breath/blood/urine reading, the evidential reliability of a breath testing device and many other technical issues. We will always discuss the cost of any such expert report with you and will seek your consent before incurring liability to pay.
By way example a “back calculation” report or report into the possible effects of medication on your breath/blood/urine alcohol concentration will cost approximately £245.00 (plus VAT). Please note that more complex reports may cost more.
Recovering your costs
When we successfully defend your case before the court we will seek to recover your costs by way of a defendant cost order. A defendant cost order should be awarded unless there are clear reasons for not doing so and will usually mean that we recover all of or a significant proportion of your costs. After all, why should you bear the cost of proving your innocence?
